Five Congress MLAs have written to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announcing their decision to join the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the state.
In a letter to CM Conrad Sangma, the five MLAs stated, “We wish to support you and the MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) government to strengthen the government’s arms and decision making, so as to ensure that our joined efforts will take the state forward , in the general interest of its citizens.”
The Congress MLAs who have extended support to the government are M Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mayralborn Syiem, Mohendro Rapsang, Kimfa Marbaniang and PT Sawkmie.
The BJP is also a part of the ruling MDA government. With the joining of Congress MLAs, Conrad Sangma will have the unique feat of getting both the Congress and BJP to be a part of the same government.
In November last year, 12 Congress MLAs, including former CM Mukul Sangma, joined the Trinamool Congress.
