Lata Mangeshkar, the singing legend, had numerous fans all across the world and her loss is mourned by one and all. The Nightingale of India breathed her last on Sunday, February 6, and was cremated with full state honors on Sunday evening at Shivaji Park, Mumbai. But not many know that Lata Mangeshkar was a big fan of television shows. One of her favorite shows was CID, which ran on Sony TV for almost 20 years, from 1998 to 2018. The characters on the show – ACP Pradyuman, Senior Inspector Daya and Inspector Abhijeet were also her favourites.

In fact, Sony TV also aired a special episode when the show turned 18 that showed Lata Mangeshkar watching the show. In the same episode, the CID team song a song, and Lata Mangeshkar loved it.

In a portion of the special episode, Lata Mangeshkar had said on record, “I have been watching this show for many years. Shivaji [Satam] comes to our home and we all meet up and talk a lot. The show has completed 18 years, but I hope the show runs for 50 years.”

Though Lata Mangeshkar wished the show would go on for 50 years, it came to an end on October 27, 2018. It is said that even though Lata Mangeshkar was not doing well, this show always kept her motivated.

Lata Mangeshkar first interacted with the cast of CID after she requested Sony TV to arrange a meeting with the cast. Team CID, including Shivaji Satam (ACP Pradyuman), Dayanand Shetty (Inspector Daya), Aditya Srivastava (Senior Inspector Abhijeet), visited her residence at Peddar Road. She was thrilled to meet the cast, especially ACP Pradyuman, played by Shivaji Satam. Lata Mangeshkar even took the prop gun he used on the show and posed for pictures.

Lata Mangeshkar chatted candidly with Team CID and talked about the various episodes. Playing a good host, Lata Mangeshkar had also arranged for food for the entire team and made sure everyone had eaten.

Later, Team CID always made sure to visit Lata Mangeshkar’s house every Ganesh Chaturthi. Aditya Srivastava and Dayanand Shetty, along with the rest of the cast, kept this tradition going for a long time. And Team CID almost became like an extended family of Lata Mangeshkar.
